Meet Britney Tennant, Candidate for House District 11.
Britney Tennant is a 5th generation Wyomingite who has spent her life in Cheyenne. Britney understands what the best of Wyoming looks like. It’s communities helping and holding each other up, and public and private entities working together to ensure opportunity, health, and stability for working families. Britney was raised by a single mother who was one of Cheyenne’s first female city police officers and who taught Britney the values and importance of public service.
A graduate from Cheyenne Central High School, Britney sang in choir and excelled in track and field. She held the Wyoming state record in the shot-put for 15 years after graduation. From there, she attended the University of Wyoming and graduated with a degree in Animal Science and Zoology. Later, Britney attended Regis University where she acquired a Master’s in Nonprofit Management.
In 2008, Britney founded Black Dog Animal Rescue, a nonprofit companion animal welfare organization that grew to be the largest of its kind in the state of Wyoming. For the past five years, she has served as the CEO of the Cheyenne Animal Shelter, the largest open-admission animal shelter in the state. Britney has worked to enhance the lives of people and companion pets, both through practical programming and through legislative improvements. Under her leadership at CAS, she improved relationships between the animal shelter and the City of Cheyenne and Laramie County, with which the organization has held municipal contracts for over 30 years. As a result, people and animals have better options, and the trust between the shelter and the community is at an all-time high.
Britney has dedicated enormous amounts of time to improving the Cheyenne community through her volunteer service. She is a graduate of Leadership Cheyenne and a past member of its steering committee, a former Chair of the Wyoming Nonprofit Network, and the current Chair of the Wyoming State Board of Veterinary Medicine. She has held volunteer roles with the Laramie County Democratic Party and United Way of Laramie County and is a 2019 graduate of Leadership Wyoming.
Britney’s son Cameron is 17 and will be graduating from East High School in 2027. When she’s not working, she enjoys running marathons. She lives in the heart of House District 11 with Cameron, her partner Scott, and their delightful fur-family.
Wyoming is special—and I'll fight to keep it that way. Future generations deserve the same opportunities we've had, and Wyomingites have long asked for the solutions to make that possible. I promise to fight for them and to never lose sight of the belief that our best days are still ahead.
